Datatag was pleased to support Peter Hickman as he made a heroic attempt at the recent Daytona 200. The British rider, known for his success in road racing events such as the Isle of Man TT, took his PHR Performance team (Including Richard Cooper) across the pond.

Before the event, we caught up with Peter Hickman, who said
“It’s fantastic to be given additional support by our friends at Datatag ID.
I’ve been supported by this British security company in some of our other adventures across BSB, the Isle of Man TT and Macau, so it’s really cool to continue this partnership over the Atlantic to the iconic Daytona circuit.
I’ve been around the brand long and seen enough motorcycle theft to know their message of keeping your machine protected and traceable is so important to bikers.”

And Kevin Howells, Datatag Managing Director, saying
“The Daytona Speedway is one of the most iconic venues in world motorsport, so to be able to support the PHR Performance campaign there is brilliant.
We love Peter’s can-do attitude to prepare his own bikes and team for this assault with such experienced riders as himself and Richard.
And finally, it’s great to support an all-British effort with our partner Triumph who equip every one of their machines with Datatag kits.”

The race was its usual competitive nature and early on Cooper rode with an excellent pace, even leading on occasions as he jostled with the front runners. Hickman’s race was marred by an incident which saw him covered in oil from another rider who had suffered an engine blow out. Despite this he persevered and fought from 29th position climbing up to 12th, an astonishing feat.
Sadly, after losing time in a pitstop, Cooper, chasing back hard to regain his position at the front of the pack, ended up crashing out on lap 25. And Hickman fared no better as a technical issue forced him to retire, agonisingly just 2 laps from the finish…
Despite the outcome, the team showed great pace, with both riders poised to finish in the top ten and potentially even return with a win!
And so, whilst no Brit has managed to ‘Triumph’ the event, we were pleased to be able to support Peter Hickman and his team of his ambitions of being the first.
